At full speed: Destination Mallorca

The sixth edition of the Cursa i Marxa Popular Camí de Ferro is organized by Club Esportiu Bonkamí, coordinated by Víctor Calvo and Nolak Sports, sponsored by Ferrocarril de Sóller S.A, and supported by the Balearic Islands Athletics Federation and other public entities and collaborating companies.

This popular, sports, and cultural event aims to merge three different races into one, following the Sóller Train tracks on June 29, 2024.

The races are known as the Camino de Hierro Race, from Palma to Sóller, covering a distance of 27 km, the Half Camino de Hierro Race, from Bunyola to Sóller, covering a distance of 13 km, and the Popular Camino de Hierro Walk, also from Bunyola to Sóller, with a distance of 13 km. The latter allows people to enjoy the beautiful route without competing.

Race Details

• Start Times:

  • The two races will start on June 29 at 20:00, although the start may be delayed if required by the Railway Service.
  • The Camino de Hierro Race will begin at the Palma to Sóller Railway Station.
  • The Half Camino de Hierro Race will start at Bunyola train station.
  • The Popular Camino de Hierro Walk will start at Bunyola station at 20:15.

• Finish Line:

  • All races will finish at the Sóller Train Station, located in the Plaza de España, Sóller.
  • After the race, participants will have transport service from the finish line to Bunyola and Palma stations, with a night train departing at 00:30 for a reduced fare of €6 per trip. Additionally, bus or taxi services will be available at 23:00 for €6, both options available upon registration at www.elitechip.net until full capacity is reached.

• Bib Collection:

  • Bibs can be collected at Tribe Running Mallorca, C/ Gremi d’Hortelans, 15, Palma de Mallorca, Son Rossinyol industrial estate:
    • Thursday, June 27: 10:30 - 13:30 and 16:30 - 19:30.
    • Friday, June 28: 10:30 - 13:30 and 16:30 - 19:30.
    • Saturday, June 29: 10:30 - 13:30.

Participation Requirements

• Participants must properly complete the registration and payment related to the chosen race mode.
• The minimum age for the Camino de Hierro Race (27 km) is 18 years old on the day of the event.
• Participants must respect the environment, the tracks, and the Sóller Train facilities and keep the surroundings clean.
• For the Half Camino de Hierro Race (13 km), the minimum age is 14 years, and for the Popular Camino de Hierro Walk, it is 12 years. Both require the presence of parents or a guardian.
• The use of poles and dogs is not allowed to ensure participant safety due to the track dimensions and tunnel passages.

Race Route and Safety

• The race follows the Sóller Train tracks for almost the entire 27 km, crossing 13 tunnels and bridges, on a technical low-profile route, accessible to all types of runners and marked by numbered posts.
• Due to the unique characteristics of the race track, additional signage will be reinforced at difficult points to prevent possible falls or accidents caused by elements of the route.
• People with physical difficulties who wish to participate in the Popular Camí de Ferro Walk must contact the organization for individual case assessment and authorization for pole use if appropriate.

Registration and Fees

• Registrations for the 6th Cursa i Marxa Popular Camí de Ferro are open and will close on June 28, 2024, or upon reaching maximum capacity. Registration can be done at www.elitechip.net.

• All participants must have accident insurance from the Balearic Islands Athletics Federation suitable for such activity. If not, it can be contracted during registration for €4.

  • Camino de Hierro Race (Palma – Sóller) 27 Km:
    • June 1 to 28, 2024: €34
  • Half Camino de Hierro Race (Bunyola – Sóller) 13 Km:
    • June 1 to 28, 2024: €24
  • Popular Camino de Hierro Walk (Bunyola – Sóller) 13 km:
    • June 1 to 28, 2024: €24

Mandatory Items for Participation

• White front headlamp and red or reflective rear light for tunnel passages.
• National Identity Document or federation license.
• Mobile phone with battery and balance with the organization’s number saved.
• Bib number.
• Mandatory accident insurance.
